The Fuel Policy Committee of Govt. of India in its report in 1974 recommended the setting up of a number of Low Temperature Carbonization Plant in India for replacement of petroleum based fuel oil in the wake of sudden rise in petroleum prices during the middle of 1970’s. CIL CokePRESENT STATUS
Setting up of Coal to Methanol plant at Dankuni Coal Complex (DCC): In pursuance to initiatives towards development of Clean Coal Technology and alternate use of coal, CIL is exploring the possibilities for setting-up a coal based Methanol plant in the premises of Dankuni Coal Complex (DCC) near Kolkata. Coal sourced from Raniganj coalfields shall be gasified to produce syngas which shall be subsequently converted into methanol. Pre-Feasibility Studies have been carried out to set up of a 2050 MTPD (0.676 MTPA) capacity Coal to Methanol plant in the available vacant land at the existing DCC plant of SECL. The project is being set up with an estimated cost of around Rs.5,842 Cr. (BOO:5467, CIL:375) on Build-OwnOperate (BOO) basis and its operation for 25 years. Tender document for selection of Build-Own-Operator (BOO) Processor for setting up of this plant and its operation for 25 years was floated by M/s PDIL on 25th Sept. 2020.
